EMPASA Membership

EMPASA Membership includes listing on the EMPASA website.

Members

All EMPASA members are issued with a certificate that has to be displayed in their practice.

The certificate has to be clearly visible and available on request for identification to patients or officials. Membership certificates are issued annually to paid-up members, with an expiry date of 31st December.

EMPASA currently has over 1500 members with valid practitioners being active, paid-up members.

Only Active Ethnomedicine Practitioners, D.Emed, Ethnopsychology Practitioners, D.Epp, and Traditional Health Practitioners, T/Dr, may issue Sick notes.

Members are responsible for the annual renewal of membership fees. Renewal fees are due before 1st January every year, for the period 1st January – 31st December: R700 (including profile) plus R300 HEPASA fee for Ethnopsychology Practitioners. Members who fail to pay annual membership fees will be removed from the EMPASA register 14 days after the annual renewal date. Although EMPASA sends out statements on a regular basis, it is the responsibility of the member to pay the renewal fees, which could be done online by EFT or Credit card.

Dormant members, who were registered with EMPASA before new registration rules, upgrade requirements, and renewal fee was mandatory.

These members can re-apply for full membership by contacting the EMPASA office.

These members did not pay their annual fees, have outstanding documents, or have been de-registered.

  1. They are not allowed to display EMPASA Certificates
  2. They are not allowed to issue sick notes (medical certificates) under the name of EMPASA (EthnoMedical Practitioners Association of South Africa)
  3. Claim or advertise that they are members of EMPASA (Ethnomedicine Practitioners International)

Suspended, deleted, and older members are advised to contact EMPASA; only after payment of the membership fees and evaluation of the Practitioner’s current state of affairs, such as qualifications, place of practice and experience, the practitioner will be re-instated, and added to the list of active members.

Members who have been suspended/deleted and have outstanding fees may apply for a late renewal (certain penalties apply), by contacting the office:
Cell: 0829892611 (Peter Welgemoed) or support@ethnomedicinepractitioners.com
